Eco Council

Introduction

At Causeway Green Primary School we are passionate about making improvements to our school and community to make it more eco-friendly. Annually, we hold an election to choose an enthusiastic eco councillor from each class from years 2-6. We hold an eco council meeting every 6 weeks to brainstorm, discuss and formulate plans. Each year, we aim to make a difference in our biodiversity, energy use, litter, waste, and school grounds and to raise awareness in and beyond our school community. The children on the eco council lead by example by driving projects and raising awareness around the school.

We Aim To:

We aim to help everybody live more sustainably.  What does that mean?  We need to live in a way that looks after our planet so that it is still a good place to live for us and all the people who will live after us!

Our Eco councillors have worked on producing an ECO CODE that is displayed around school and every class has been asked to pledge to keep it both in and out of school.  We meet every Monday morning where we make suggestions and decisions as well as being involved in projects that the council runs.

We represent the aims of the whole school to improve Causeway Green Primary's sustainability by reducing its energy use and increasing the amount of recycling carried out.

  • Help others to follow our ECO CODE such as putting litter in the bin, and turning off taps and lights.

  • Monitor our energy use in school and encourage teachers and children to recycle.

What we have achieved:

We held a waste survey and found that the vast majority of our waste is paper and cardboard. We now recycle it!

We collected over 1,600 batteries, taking them to be recycled, preventing them from going to landfill.

The children in the Eco Council held regular litter picks around our school grounds.
