Music Development Plan
Our school has chosen to create and invest in a Music Development Plan, as set out in the national plan for music education.
The Music Development Plan is a summary of our work that helps us to:
raise awareness of our music provision and planning
promote the school music offer to our parents and prospective parents
give greater opportunity for our school to work with music hubs and other providers
We pride ourselves on ensuring that our children have a wealth of musical experiences, carefully planned across the academic year; including regular events such as Singing Assembly, musical performances, concerts and shows at the school, and trips to concerts outside of the school.
We aim to give the children a rich diet of music and explore a range of genres and discuss what the music sounds like and how it makes us feel. We do this in our weekly Singing Assemblies. We also invite special guests to perform for us. We welcomed Samantha Oxborough who is a mezzo-soprano. She shared her vocal talents and her stories of how she became a singer and performed at the Common Wealth Games to the King and Queen. We have invited the Birmingham Conservatoire to perform Opera for our pupils. Children experienced an interactive performance with the talented musicians. We have also visited both the Symphony Hall and the Birmingham Conservatoire to enjoy concerts.
Our beloved Jam Club provides students with the chance to collaborate with a company that specialises in rock bands! Children from Reception to Year 6 who are interested in music or want to learn an instrument can join their very own band. Each band consists of up to six children and includes instruments like drums, guitar, and keyboard, as well as vocalists. The children perform regularly for their peers, a school audience, and parents. Excitingly, our local secondary school, Oldbury Academy, has offered us the opportunity to record our music in their recording studio. We are all looking forward to this experience!
