Roarsome Readers
Roarsome Readers
At Causeway Green Primary School, we celebrate reading with Rosie the Dinosaur and Ranger Rick! If your child reads more than three times a week and records this in their reading diary, they will be invited to our special Roarsome Readers Assembly and receive a certificate with Rosie. They may even be asked to do the Rosie Stomp to celebrate. So, let's encourage our children to read and become Awesome Roarsome Readers!
Reading is the most important homework you can do with your child.
Did you know that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child's future success? It influences their future more than family circumstances, parents' educational backgrounds, or income. Whether your child has a school reading book with pictures or words, we encourage you to share this book with them for just 5 minutes every day instead of doing a longer session every other night or on the weekends. Research shows that even 5 minutes of reading daily can significantly help your child learn to read and become a confident reader. If your child is tired, consider reading to them and pointing out keywords for them to find in their book.
As your child becomes a more accomplished and independent reader (between Year 3 and Year 6), encourage them to commit to daily, ten-minute reading sessions.
Your child will have a reading diary, which we ask you to sign and add a simple comment to whenever you read with them. Make sure this is done at least three times a week, as doing so will earn your child their Roarsome Reader award!
Each week, every child will also choose a library book to enjoy and read for pleasure.
